Nutrition for children and teenagers
For children and teenagers, the aim is never restriction: it is growth, energy and a calm relationship with food. The work is done with the family, at a realistic pace.

Never a restrictive diet for a child
Growth charts, together with the paediatrician
Who attends the consultation?
Child (<12 years)
- Parental presence required
- Playful educational approach
Teen (12-18 years)
- Autonomy encouraged
- Confidentiality respected
Frequently supported situations
A very selective child, conflictual meals, a sporty teenager, overweight spotted at a school check-up, vegetarianism chosen in adolescence: each situation needs a different framework, but never calorie counting.
- Meal structure and the respective parent/child roles
- Food neophobia: repeated exposure without forcing
- Sporty teens: intake matched to training load
- Supervised vegetarianism: iron, B12, protein, calcium
How the consultation unfolds
The consultation takes place with the child and at least one parent. It builds on the growth chart followed by the paediatrician, on how a real day unfolds (breakfast, canteen, snack, sport) and on the friction points around meals.
- Organising meals and the weekly rhythm
- Food neophobia and gradual broadening
- Needs linked to growth and sports activity
Coordination with the paediatrician, and warning signs
No weight-loss diet is proposed to a child. A break in the growth curve, weight loss, major food refusal or signs suggesting an eating disorder require prompt paediatric advice, coordinated with the practice.
What belongs to your physician
Diagnosis, tests and medical treatment remain your doctor's responsibility. Dietetic support adapts to them and, with your agreement, a report is sent to your doctor.
