Removing only what is necessary, and keeping a varied diet.

You may recognise yourself here

  • A food allergy (eggs, peanuts, tree nuts…) or a cross-reaction has been confirmed.
  • Coeliac disease, lactose or fructose intolerance has been diagnosed.
  • You have removed many foods without knowing which ones are really involved.

Which situation fits you?

  • Bloating, irritable bowel: “Low-FODMAP protocol”.
  • Confirmed coeliac disease or non-coeliac gluten sensitivity: “Coeliac disease & gluten”.
  • Bloating or reflux with no identified food: see “Digestion, microbiota & gut comfort”.

What the dietitian can work on with you

  • Limiting elimination to the foods actually involved and reading allergen labels.
  • Supervising progressive reintroduction when it is indicated.
  • Preventing deficiencies (calcium, iron, fibre, vitamins) during elimination.

What remains with your doctor

  • Allergy diagnosis, serology and biopsy belong to your doctor or allergist.
  • Never reintroduce on your own a food that caused an allergic reaction.
  • Swelling, breathing difficulty or feeling faint after a meal: call 112.

Clinical note: Dietary care complements care from your doctor, who is responsible for diagnosis, prescribing laboratory tests and the CNS prescription.
